Bathrooms underway
Today we tackled 2 bathroom projects. I painted the downstairs bathroom. It has beautiful original grey green tile so we wanted to juxtapose it with a big color. We chose a deep blue with grey overtones.Super happy with the color. Jim spent the day with his head in the toilet changing out the parts for ones from this century. It had a leak in it before and wasted lots of water, so now it's more efficient.Still thinking about what color to paint the upstairs bathroom with the mint green tile, swatches still on the wall, need to go with the boomerang formica we will be covering the vanity in.
Pantry Complete
We thought we would start our renovation with a fast easy and very necessary project, creating a usable clean efficient pantry. I really enjoyed ripping out the ratty shelves made of junky particle board and misc planks. It was then I discovered how solid our walls are. Not drywall, but plaster and lathe. After I tore huge holes in the walls and filled them, the spackle took 2 days to dry. Then it sucked up 2 coats of paint. We realized there was no way to get the Metro shelving in the closet without taking it apart and assembling it in place. It all worked out and now we have tons of room for food (and for those of you who know us, you know we need tons of food).

We are in, and almost totally unpacked!
It's been 4 days and it already feels like home. Before we start any renovations we need to be comfortable so we unpacked almost everything and used some of the pieces we already had as temporary solutions.Bookcase in dining room is only temporary until I get my studio shelves in place. It's so nice to visit with my art books and cookbooks. Jim took all his military research books downstairs along with his models, tools and misc stuff to his future man cave in the basement. Moving day was beautiful and sunny and today it snowed. Not done with winter yet! This weekend we will help Bernice finish her suite(photos to follow). Can't wait to sit on the deck and have cocktails!

Closing date has been set!
Greetings friends,
Yesterday we got the news our closing will take place on Feb 29, 2016. We said we were hoping to close in Feb. and it's happening! So now we slip into high gear, make our battle plan, and start packing boxes. We are so excited about renovating our new home we have lists and lists of projects. We will start with the kitchen and living room and work out from there.
Looks like I will have time to get in a garden this spring which I am super excited about. My dear friend Lani sent me a lovely assortment of organic seeds and I bought some more. All I need now is the soil.

Photos from walk through, before we close
As you can see we have our work cut out for us, but the bones are there. The great room (500 square feet) is amazing with a working fireplace and a wall of windows overlooking the yard. Most of our work there will be cosmetic. We are planning to do built in bookcases. The kitchen is a total reno project. Probably our first one, new cabinets, counters and appliances.Very happy we have gas cooking in place. The basement is a big project as well. That will become Jim's model cave. Our bedroom which is upstairs along with the cool green bathroom and a combo guest room /studio for me can wait.Right now , till closing, all we can do is dream.
